Ruth Douthwright
Therapeutic Movement Practitioner | Somatic Movement | Artist
Ruth offers one-to-one and group movement-based practices online and in person. Her work bridges somatic practice, therapeutic facilitation, and movement education through a gentle and experiential approach.
Her approach supports diverse bodies, abilities, mobility levels, and lived experiences. No dance or movement experience is required.
Rooted in over 25 years of international facilitation experience, Ruth works with individuals, groups, health-care organizations, educational settings, disability communities, artists, and therapeutic environments. Her sessions integrate movement, breath, sensory awareness, grounding practices, improvisation, and guided reflection.
Her work is informed by extensive international study and practice in Continuum, Body-Mind Centering, Movement and Vocal Improvisation, Body Weather Farm (Japan), and over 20 years of involvement as a contributor and teacher with the Axis Syllabus. Ruth is additionally a certified mindfulness facilitator with Global Minds Collective.
Ruth has been involved with Body Braid since its early development and brings over 15 years of experience in the teaching, development, and application of Body Braid practices within movement education, therapeutic facilitation, and community care settings.
Her work with Body Braid has supported individuals navigating chronic pain, injury recovery, hypermobility, and sensory awareness practices.
Alongside her therapeutic and movement-based work, Ruth is the co-founder of Sweet Labour Art Collective and the Somatic Gym Online Platform, and has developed numerous community-engaged arts and health initiatives across Canada.
